In
healthcare, advances in technology are rapid. Aspen Valley Hospital is
constantly upgrading its equipment in order to provide a quality of care right
here in Aspen that is equivalent to the care one would expect in a large
city.
In 2004 we installed digital technology in the operating room. This is especially important because more and more operations are performed using tiny incisions and videoscopic techniques. We are geared with operating room equipment that is equal to the best-equipped operating rooms in America. With digital technology, physicians are better able to manage images, exchange and transfer information, and incorporate education and documentation into a procedure.
Our surgery department is well-known for its expertise in orthopaedic surgery procedures,
including arthroscopy of the knees, ankles, shoulders, and elbows, and laser surgery for the
shoulder.
In addition to minimally-invasive and orthopaedic services, AVH offers a full spectrum of traditional surgical services as well. Surgery is performed by a variety of on-staff surgical specialists, in many medical fields: ENT, gastroenterology, gynecology, ophthalmology, oral/maxillofacial, plastic/cosmetic, trauma, and urology. General and elective surgeries, from emergency to minor to major, are routinely performed at AVH.
Aspen Valley Hospital boasts a well-qualified surgical nursing staff. Our staff nurses in the operating room and recovery room all hold certifications in advanced cardiac life support (ACLS). Many are certified in OR nursing (CNOR), and all have four to 30 years of experience in the operating room.
An important aspect of surgery is the accompanying anesthesia. The AVH anesthesia team works with patients regarding their preferences. We offer general, local, and epidural anesthesia options, with the goal of providing a safe and pain-free surgical experience. Post-surgical pain management is another important service offered by the Anesthesia Department.
