Health Screening Guidelines for Women

Age-appropriate screenings are essential for discovering diseases and disorders at the early stages when they are most treatable. Use the following as a guideline for healthy adult women.

  • Blood pressure: Every 1- 2 years
  • Pap smear: Annually
  • Cholesterol: Every 5 years
  • Mammogram: Baseline at age 40, then annually
  • Breast self-exam: Monthly, after menses
  • Professional breast exam: Annually
  • Thyroid: Those over age 45
  • Glaucoma: Annually
  • Colorectal cancer: At age 50, then annually
  • Sigmoidoscopy: Every 3 - 5 years after age 50

Anyone with a personal or family history of disease should consult with a physician to determine individual testing and immunization ages and frequencies.
