Whitcomb Terrace Assisted Living Aspen Valley Hospital's Assisted Living Facility Whitcomb Terrace, an assisted living residence, is located two miles from downtown Aspen. The facility offers private apartments as well as social interaction and attentive care. Owned and operated by Aspen Valley Hospital, there are 15 private apartments ranging in size from studios to large one bedrooms. Each apartment has either a patio or a balcony. "It's really like a private apartment complex, not a care facility," says Maggie Gerardi, Co-director of Whitcomb Terrace. "Residents bring their favorite furniture and knick-knacks with them when they move in. One resident even brought her own chandelier to hang in her living room." Whitcomb Terrace residents eat meals together seven days a week in the common dining room. "Because Whitcomb Terrace shares the building with Pitkin County Senior Services, residents can join community seniors for lunch on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and also participate in social activities with them," says Maggie. Residents enjoy everything from bridge and bingo to walking and biking, and they are encouraged to get out as often as they can. A senior van and the regular valley buses pull right up to the front door of Whitcomb Terrace for easy use by residents. Whitcomb Terrace is staffed around the clock. Residents are assisted with daily activities by personal care providers. Services include laundry, housekeeping, and hair and nail care. "Because we are a small facility, we can coordinate individual services based on the interests and needs of our residents," says Maggie. Although Whitcomb Terrace is not a medical environment, the health status of each resident is monitored by staff on an ongoing basis. Medication administration is also provided. Arrangements can be made for home health services and doctor appointments when necessary. Each apartment at Whitcomb Terrace includes an emergency call system in both the bedroom and the bathroom. "The emergency call system is monitored 24 hours a day," says Maggie. "It's also reassuring to know that Aspen Valley Hospital is in our back yard." To find out more about Whitcomb Terrace, please call (970) 544-1530 or email Maggie Gerardi. |

![]() "We were on vacation in Aspen, and coming from a big city, we were nervous and unsure. Your entire staff, from the person at the ER entrance to the nurse that checked us out (six days later) was amazing. I would choose Aspen Valley Hospital over any in the Chicago area where I live." —AVH Patient |
