About our Board of Directors...

GREG BALKO, MD, DIRECTOR
Dr. Balko is a board-certified emergency physician at Aspen Valley Hospital.  He received his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas and completed his residency at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.  As a hospital-based physician, Dr. Balko works closely with staff and other physicians and brings a unique perspective to the Board.

 

JOHN JELLINEK, DIRECTOR
Mr. Jellinek is the President of Jelco Ventures, a company which invests in healthcare manufacturing and software companies.  He has an MBA from the University of Chicago, and he has taught entrepreneurial business at the Miami University of Ohio business school.  He has experience in financial management, business development, and healthcare systems.  In addition, Mr. Jellinek has participated in several local non-profits.

 

BARRY MINK, MD, DIRECTOR
Dr. Mink has practiced medicine in the Aspen Community for approximately 30 years.  In addition to his medical practice as board-certified internist, he has served in medical staff leadership roles for 18 years while on staff at Aspen Valley Hospital.  Dr. Mink is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.

 

JOHN SARPA, DIRECTOR
Mr. Sarpa is the President of the Aspen Valley Hospital Board of Directors.  He is the managing director of the Snowmass Land Company and a real estate developer.  Mr. Sarpa has a Law degree and has served on many local boards, including Neighbor to Neighbor, Aspen Valley Medical Foundation, Aspen Chamber Resort Association, Aspen Institute Community Forum, Leadership Aspen, and Aspen Rotary Club.  He has been involved in community projects, such as preserving ranchland in the Carbondale area and serving on affordable housing task forces.

 

LEE SCHUMACHER, DIRECTOR
Mr. Schumacher has lived in the Roaring Fork Valley since 1980.  He is an attorney specializing in taxation and real estate.  His law degree was received from the University of Denver College of Law.  With six children, and a law firm that has represented physicians and physician groups for more than 20 years, he has both professional and personal experience with Aspen Valley Hospital.  He also serves on the boards of Aspen Country Day School, Aspen Valley Ski Club, and the United States Soo Bach Do Moo Duk Kwan Federation.
